Required Screening & Training

All head coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete the (1) background check, (2) SafeSport training, and (3) concussion training before practices and games begin. These requirements must be completed each soccer year (runs August - July). 1.    Background Check

Background checks will be processed through the USSF Learning Center.
Please note that Background checks can take several weeks to receive results.   It is critical coaches complete this first before the other trainings.

The USSF Learning Center provides two options for coaches on submitting a background check:

·       Free option in which WCSA pays for a coach’s background check as they submit their information to be reviewed through USSF

·       Paid option in which a coach chooses to pay for their own background check as they submit their information to be reviewed through USSF

Instructions for the Free option:

Step 1.  If you do not have a USSF Learning Center account, create one now (link: https://learning.ussoccer.com/).

Step 2.  Click the link below to join the USSF/WCSA group.  This shows USSF a coach has chosen to have WCSA pay for their background check.

(also required for players 18 years and older)

The purpose of the SafeSport Abuse Training is to educate in a 3-part series. Each training module lasts about 30 minutes and can be taken in segments. SafeSport training runs in a four year cycle. After completing the first year, the next three years will be a 30-minute review. The fifth year will restart the cycle with the full training program.

For Players 18 years and older, read below and follow the instructions (NOTE: a SafeSport profile cannot be set up prior to turning 18):

When players turn 18, they become subject to adult SafeSport training requirements. To remain eligible to play, all players 18 years and older must complete SafeSport training.

Before training, please update the Tennessee State Soccer Association player profile with the email address that will also be used to set up an account on SafeSport. A parent or guardian can do this by accessing the profile via their Tennessee State Soccer Association My Account page.

Additionally, when setting up the SafeSport profile, it is important that the first name, last name, and email match what is on file in Tennessee State Soccer Association. This will ensure that SafeSport course results are automatically inserted into the Tennessee State Soccer Association record.
